Placements
We regard your kindergarten placements as an essential part of the courses from the very beginning. They
will help you to embed what you hear in the taught sessions in real contexts. You will be able to reflect on
the topics that you meet in the light of your placement experiences and contribute to seminar discussions in
a meaningful way.
It is the responsibility of the student to arrange the placements. Advice and active support will be offered
by the tutors. We require 10 days of placement in each term of the first two years (this could be one
day per week or a two-week block, for example).
For the third year of the course, students must find a
full-time placement in a Steiner Waldorf early years setting. It may be possible, with the agreement of the
tutors, to complete the course by working half-time for two years.
It is expected that most of your work placements will be within Steiner Waldorf kindergarten settings
working with children between three and six years old. In addition you will be asked to visit Steiner Waldorf
Parent and Child groups, and comparative settings such as mainstream, Montessori, or Reggio Emilia based
nurseries and a foundation stage class in a primary school. Details of exactly what is required will be given
to you by the tutors. All placement visits must be logged and the log submitted to the Course Coordinator once a term.
